About doula care
What does a doula do?
A doula offers nonmedical emotional, physical, and informational support through pregnancy, birth, and the time after. That may include preparing for birth, comfort measures, helping you express your preferences, and making space for your questions.
Does a doula replace my doctor, midwife, or nurse?
No. Doula care works alongside your clinical care team. Your medical professionals provide medical assessment and treatment; your doula focuses on support, comfort, information, and helping your voice stay central.
What kinds of support does SunBurst Doulas offer?
We offer prenatal preparation, birth doula support, and postpartum and feeding support. During a consultation, we can discuss which parts of that care fit your needs and what is currently available.
Can my partner or other support people be involved?
Yes. We can talk about how the people you choose can be involved while keeping your preferences at the center of your care.
Getting started
When should I reach out?
You can reach out whenever you begin considering doula support. Contacting us earlier gives us more time to talk through your goals and availability, but you are welcome to ask later in pregnancy too.
Where do you provide care?
SunBurst Doulas serves Lansing, Michigan, and nearby communities. Tell us your location when you inquire so we can discuss whether your care is within our service area.
What happens during the free consultation?
We’ll talk about the support you are looking for, your timing, questions, and the next steps. It is a chance to see whether working together feels like a good fit.
How do I send an inquiry?
Use the contact section on our home page. After you select “Prepare my inquiry,” your email app opens with a draft. Press Send in that app to complete your inquiry. You can also email sunburstdoulas@gmail.com directly. Please avoid sending medical details in the initial message.
Fees and coverage
How much does private-pay care cost?
Request a free consultation to discuss the scope of care, availability, and fees. We’ll talk through what support you need before giving you a price.
Can Medicaid cover doula care?
Michigan Medicaid has a doula benefit, but coverage for care with SunBurst Doulas depends on current provider enrollment, plan participation, and your coverage. Please ask when you inquire. We’ll confirm the details before any Medicaid-covered services are booked.
